THE EARS

Below are some basic ear positions horses have and also use to communicate with. 

You can make yourself familiar with these so you can be aware around horses.

HAPPY

When a horse is happy their ears are often softly forward.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCARED / SHYING

When a horse is scared their ears will normally point towards the thing they are scared of.

RELAXED

When a horse is relaxed the ears are generally forward but not held strongly in position.

 

 

UNHAPPY

Ears back

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ANGRY / AGGRESSIVE

Ears hard back
