SETTLING IN / RE/CONNECTING 18
PROGRAMME STEP 13
Do everything the same today as the last step however while mounted, allow your horse to finish his feed and simply wander around on his own accord inside the riding area.
You are simply a kind and huggable passenger this ride.
NO commands just let him do what he wants this is critical. No trotting just walking, standing, him picking things off the ground etc. Do this only for a short time, say 5 minutes. No harsh commands, no growling no negativity, definitely no clicking. Just be present as a friend. Lots of stroke pats & chatting calmly. Be aware and monitor your voice making sure you aren't nervously chatting in a high pitched voice invoking nervousness.
Then dismount, big cuddles, hugs encouragement and finish.
Repeat this next session but stay longer on his back wandering round, say 10 minutes and repeat that twice.
STEP 13 GOAL & OUTCOME:
The goal of these steps is to instill in your horse that you are not intimidating and for him to accept you in the saddle while in a relaxed mental state thus able to think clearly. It is also for you to gain confidence in him and get a feel for him slowly.
